When an injury occurs, chemical substances, which thrombocytes are not only attracted to but can adhere with are released at the site of the injury. Thrombocytes are able to adhere to this chemical substance and quickly begin to form alliances with other platelets and clotting factors in the absence of anticoagulopathy. This alliance is the body’s defense against bleeding and therefore bleeding-to-death. Thrombocytes are also significant at guiding the clinician towards diagnostic clues and aiding in eventual diagnosis, care planning and treatment3.
